My personal opinion on Singapore's Chinese Culture is that it is still surviving, if not visibly, within each Singaporean Chinese there will definitely be a hint of that little bit of chinese within each of us. Just today, my friends and I were talking about how some parents can still be "a typical chinese man". Let me give some interesting references to this.
I was recently at the SAM(Singapore Art Museum) with Felicia due to the reason that we had free tickets! It was a rather enjoyable experience. There was a section we were at that talked about the testimony of a girl in school and how parents respond to grades - as a very typical conservative parent, concerned about the materialistic side of things. That is the reality of it all.
Besides that, the picture above represents possibly the part of chinese culture that is still very much alive in Singapore. Weddings have their formal ritual called the tea ceremony. The picture shows a number of items in the showcase related to a chinese wedding. The certificate put and presented in a red tube, the cups used in a tea ceremony and the cufflings for the groom's shirt. Through out the day, though a tiring process, this whole wedding ceremony is an event of granduer and elegance. It really is a day people take the day to celebrate a couple's marriage being special and a day to be treasured. Traditionally, red is the most dominant colour. (preferably no black) This, although not thriving in Singapore may still be the last bit of chinese culture we, of this generation, can still salvage and savour in our own time, deciding if we want to carry it on into the next generation and pass down this valuable bit of heritage or leave it to rot in a museum.
This is for you to decide.
